Each hot dog takes 36 minutes of your life.

Recent research by scientists has made it possible to determine how much different foods shorten or increase life expectancy.

RIA Novosti reports, referring to The Telegraph, that scientists from the University of Michigan were able to calculate how much time popular products take away from life expectancy (or add to it). Using a standardized calculation system, they evaluated about 6 thousand types of dishes and products. The article provides overwhelming data, for example:

“We found that, on average, every gram of sausage eaten by a person takes 27 seconds of life.”

Taking into account other factors, a hot dog loved by many is worth 36 minutes of life, and a serving of cola – 12.5 minutes. Eating red meat has an equally negative effect on life expectancy.

But don’t be too upset – there are many healthy foods out there that help promote longevity. So, for example, each serving of nuts “gives” 26 minutes, salmon – 16. In addition, vegetables, fruits and legumes prolong life.

The results of studies taking into account the environment, production and storage have allowed scientists to recommend an increase in the consumption of plant foods and fish.
