Expert: vacationers will bring "problem"

The government and the committee of epidemiologists talk about the criticality of the situation and argue that in the next ten days it is necessary to turn the tide in the battle against the pandemic. The main problem is the return of tourists in August from vacations home.

The number of new infections associated with travel around the country has skyrocketed in recent days. First of all, we are talking about large urban centers. “A government spokesman urged us to continue to work to reduce the number of cases in order to start the fall with the best data. As September-October approaches, there is a risk of re-emergence of the virus, as is the case with seasonal illnesses such as the flu. “

“The disease goes away easily, but 10% of young people will develop covid syndrome,” experts say.

A mention of the protection provided by the vaccine, the increased epidemiological burden, and the need to vaccinate children was made by Athena Linou, professor of epidemiology at the EKPA School of Medicine, on a TV channel this morning.

“The increase in the number of cases of covid is evidenced by the fact that we have a high positivity index in all areas. In the country as a whole, it is 3-4 for the last two weeks, ”the professor said.

The recent publication of a study showing the correlation of coronavirus with microparticle concentrations caused by fires is of particular concern, Ms Linu said. The study results raise concerns about how the pandemic will develop in Greece after catastrophic fires, as these microparticles burden the respiratory system and contribute to the spread of the virus.

“The isolation turned out to be quite unsafe.”
According to Ms Linu, Pfizer’s final approval from the FDA is a decisive response to vaccination, which was provoked by public perception that the vaccine has not been tested for a sufficient amount of time.

Nevertheless, the risks of infection with covid remain high, 50% in the country are not vaccinated. The isolation proved to be quite dangerous. “There were studies that showed that we may have closed our mobility for a few hours, but synchronicity increased at certain points in supermarkets,” the expert says.

In fact, as the professor explained, the virus makes us learn a lot about medicine and public health. “We have many global challenges related to how to deal with this pandemic. We need to make every effort to communicate to the public and convince opponents of vaccination of the need to get vaccinated. Mandatory vaccination will be applied in some professions.

It is one thing to say that you live in Greece, therefore you are vaccinated without fail, and it is another thing to say that if you are not vaccinated, you will not be able to do certain jobs, ”said the EKPA professor, speaking about compulsory vaccination.

Vaccinated people are protected from coronavirus

“The disease goes away easily, but 10% of young people will develop covid syndrome,” says the expert. With regard to the duration of immunity of the vaccine and the third dose, Ms Linu explained that decisions on these issues are made by specialized scientists based on scientific research published in reputable journals.

Ms Linu also spoke about parents who do not want to vaccinate their children, noting that they put them at great risk. And she advised her parents to study what competent scientists say.
