USA: schools open, infected children rise

SOS American experts on the rise in the number of infected children. It is associated with the opening of schools and the high transmissibility of the Delta mutation.

Experts from the American Academy of Pediatrics state:

“Since the beginning of July, there has been a steady increase in the number of cases. Last week there were 72,000 cases, which is significantly more than the 39,000 a week earlier. ”

Doctors Panos Malandrakis, Yannis Danasis and Thanos Dimopoulos (Rector of EKPA) from Theodore Psaltopoulou, Theodore Psaltopoulou, Medical Clinic of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, comment on a recent publication by the American Academy of Pediatrics. Their words are quoted by the Athens News Agency:

“Those who have not been vaccinated are more infected with the Delta strain. This shows how important vaccination is for parents when they have children under the age of 12, while in the US it is recommended to vaccinate all children over the age of 12 and return to classes with the necessary masking. “

In 19% of new cases in the United States, children are sick, and it is believed that the cause lies in the high transmission of the Delta strain. Of the 25 million children in the 12-17 age group, more than 10.9 million received at least their first dose of Pfizer vaccine. Moderna and Johnson & Johnson are approved for adults 18+ only.

Over the entire period of the pandemic, 4.2 million children have contracted the coronavirus. The severe form of the disease is rare in them. However, scientists say more data needs to be collected on the long-term complications of COVID-19 in children. Particular attention should be paid to the impact of the pandemic on the mental health of minors.
