Metropolitan of Mytilene, Yakovos, local priests, members of the humanitarian organization of the Catholic Church of Sant Egidio and Metropolitan of Amorion Nikifor, representing Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, led the prayer.
“We want to preserve the memory of all the victims of the past and present in the journey of hope. Our real prayer is for the new tragedy in Afghanistan and the countless refugees between Mexico and the United States, between Myanmar and Bagladesh, Ethiopia, Yemen, Eritrea, around the world, ”said the representative of Sant Egidio.
“We pray that these trips will turn from death to hope in a world of hope. We pray that Europe will remain humane and find itself again. “
After prayers, participants laid wreaths at the statue of the Mother of Asia Minor, a symbol of the Asia Minor catastrophe of 1922, which forced millions of Greeks to leave their homeland and become refugees.
