Tax: big catch and fines

An independent audit by the Government Revenue Authority (AADE) continued in August across all market sectors. The results showed that tax evasion is under way.

A number of companies have found that the issuance of cashier’s checks is systematically avoided. If violations were found, a 48-hour suspension from work was envisaged and heavy fines were imposed.

Check results:

In the car tire store in Arta, 21 checks were not issued for the amount of 5,800 euros. The diner (Orestiada) has not issued 2,600 checks for the amount of 5,700 euros. A furniture store in Thessaloniki did not issue three receipts for 5,100 euros. In a laundry in Sparta, 140 receipts for the amount of 3,500 euros were not issued. A tourist boat rental company in the southern suburbs of Athens has not issued two receipts for 3,500 euros. A trading company in Kefalonia did not issue an invoice for € 2,300. A canopy and upholstery company (Corinth) did not issue five receipts for 2,000 euros. A petrol station in Nafplio has “concealed” an income of 2,000 euros. The bakery in Agrinio did not issue 20 receipts for the amount of 1,100 euros.

In addition to 48-hour closings and fines, auditors have already requested these companies’ ledgers to verify claims from previous months and years.
