If your passport is burned out or lost in a fire

Passports destroyed by fire will be renewed with priority and free of charge for citizens affected by recent fires.

According to a police statement regarding passports and identity cards that were destroyed in the fires, it was decided to replace them completely and as a matter of priority.

A) For passports:
Citizens are given the opportunity, if they wish, to replace damaged passports that were valid until 12/31/2021. The validity of new passports will be equivalent to damaged ones.

Issuance / replacement of passports is carried out free of charge (without paying a fee), as an exception (derogation from the provisions of the current legislation).

It is specified that in order to issue passports, in addition to the necessary supporting documents, a certificate from the police or other competent authority is required (for citizens whose passports were destroyed as a result of fires in the regions of Attica, Central Greece, Western Greece and the Peloponnese).

B) For identification purposes:
Issuance or replacement of ID cards is free of charge (no commission is charged) and on a priority basis. To facilitate the process, the injured citizens are transported to the competent police authorities in official vehicles. Police officers in the affected areas will assist in obtaining the necessary documents for citizens.
