On Thursday morning, 12/08, the port sounded the alarm when a boat with 17 passengers sank off the coast of Milos.

It is a 17m British flag yacht that sank 5 miles west of Falconer, 16 miles northwest of Milos.

The Coast Guard is conducting a rescue operation. SEA JET 2 has already reached the point where the yacht sank and is rescuing people on the high seas. Three ships of the Greek Navy, two floating craft, a private boat, helicopters of the Navy and one of the Air Force arrived at the site.

The Mayor of Milos, Manolis Mikelis, told SKAI: “We are engaged in rescuing people at sea.” Noting that it is not yet known whether they are foreigners or Greek citizens.

As for the wind, which was recorded in the region of the accident site, according to the initial information, its strength was 4-5 Beaufort points, however, Mr. Mikelis stressed that “most likely there was 7 points.”

As a spokesman for the Shipping Ministry told ERT, “we want to hope everyone is saved.” Emphasizing that the boat passengers sent a signal and asked for help.
