The new heatwave, which began earlier in the week, is expected to peak today. According to forecasts from the National Observatory of Athens /meteo.gr, the temperature will reach 42⁰C on Wednesday.
A strong sense of discomfort will reignite, especially in Athens and the suburbs, where dust and ash pollution will make it difficult to breathe. A gradual decrease in temperature is expected from Thursday and, according to forecasts of meteorologists, will normalize by the weekend, when the temperature returns to the normal level for the season of 28-32 ° С.
The maximum temperatures today in the central regions of Greece will locally reach 41-42⁰C, in the north 37-38⁰C, in other parts 39-40 ° C.
On the islands, temperatures will also fluctuate at high levels, reaching 38–39 ° C in the East Aegean Sea and East Rhodes, 39–41⁰ C in Crete, 36–37⁰ C in the Cyclades and the Ionian Sea.
At the same time, local rains and sporadic thunderstorms are expected today in the central and northern, predominantly mountainous regions. They will take place during the day in the Peloponnese mountains, while there is the likelihood of local rains in the regions of Central and Northern Evia, where locals have been praying for rain since the start of the fires.
