One hundred firefighters from Ukraine arrived in Athens on Saturday to help eliminate forest fires in the country, according to the Ukrainian Embassy in Greece.

According to the Ukrainian embassy, Ukrainian firefighters were sent to the island of Evia, where they immediately got involved in the work.

News from Ukrainian firefighters now on the island of Evia, one of the hardest hit regions, is helping to curb the disaster. We finished the work for today. There are no casualties. The wind was strong, at the same time our firefighters managed to save two villages, cattle, warehouses, agricultural machinery. The locals are very pleased with the work of the Ukrainian firefighters, the guys were fed. Thank you guys!.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky ordered to help Greece fight forest fires. He announced this on Twitter.

“I have set the task of the Ukrainian government to help Greece overcome devastating fires in some parts of the country. On Friday, the Cabinet of Ministers is to decide to send 100 of our experienced firefighters with the necessary equipment to Greece,” he wrote.
As we reported earlier, firefighters from Ukraine, Cyprus, France, Israel, Croatia, Sweden and other countries arrived in Greece on August 6. In particular, since Friday, the Greek fire forces have been reinforced by foreign brigades arriving by plane from neighboring countries: France, Ukraine, as well as from Cyprus (which responded first). The specialists came in response to the country’s request for assistance under the European Civil Protection Mechanism.

Firefighters from Ukraine
There are 100 firefighters from Ukraine in Greece. President of the country Volodymyr Zelensky instructed the Cabinet of Ministers to send firefighters to help fight forest fires. The government at an extraordinary meeting approved the corresponding decision. On Friday, August 6, the combined detachment of Ukrainian rescuers went to Greece.
In detail the foreign forces that will help in the fight against fires:
82 firefighters from France are working in Afidnes, as well as 2 Canard aircraft, which are already in operation today at Parnit, from Cyprus 40 firefighters are working in Parnit and 2 aircraft in Crete, a Canadair aircraft arrived from Croatia, 120 firefighters from Ukraine as infantry (ground extinguishing firefighters) help to extinguish fires in Evia, from Israel 16 firefighters will work in Attica, 2 planes arrived from Sweden, 112 firefighters arrived from Romania in 23 specialized vehicles, 3 SP helicopters arrived from Switzerland with a special water tanker.
On what fronts are international forces active?
One hundred Ukrainians are already in Evia, 82 French are in Attica, along with 40 Cypriot firefighters, as well as two French planes and specialized vehicles (with water cannons) from Croatia.
Today, 16 Israeli firefighters and two Swedish firefighting planes are joining the fire brigade. In addition, 112 firefighters in 23 vehicles and three super puma helicopters arrived from Switzerland. Arrival of rescuers from Romania is expected. Two more planes from Cyprus operate in Crete.
