Terrorism suspect arrested in Thessaloniki

46-year-old man arrested on Monday in Thessaloniki for participation in a terrorist group “Revolutionary self-defense”related to attacks on PASOK and the Mexican and French embassies.

The man, recognizable only by his initials (D.Ch.), was detained by the anti-terrorist service and the DIAS team shortly after the robbery with a Kalashnikov assault rifle of an Alfa Bank branch in the northern capital. The robber tried to hide on his motorcycle, but was overtaken by the police.

D.Ch. wanted on a warrant issued 1.5 years ago after two other members of the group were arrested in a safe house and escaped from the hospital, despite having previously been wounded in the leg during the robbery of the OPAP bookmaker in Cholargos.

The arrested person was handed over to the counter-terrorist police unit, which will take him to Athens, and the house where he is staying is being searched.

“Revolutionary Self-Defense” claimed responsibility for attacks with Kalashnikov assault rifles on police near the party headquarters PASOK on Harilau Trikupi street in the center of Athens and the Mexican Embassy, ​​as well as attack using a grenade on French embassy, among other things.
