Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias held a telephone conversation with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov. During the conversation, the possibility of sending another BU-200 to fight fires was discussed.
Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias said on Twitter following the conversation:
“They discussed the fight against fires, and it was proposed to consider the possibility of sending another BE-200 Beriev to provide assistance.”
During the telephone conversation, the foreign ministers of the two countries discussed the deepening of bilateral relations, exchanged views on the upcoming autumn visits, and considered the possibility of cooperation on civil protection issues.
Formerly Greece turned to Russia with a request to send one more Be-200 aircraft. According to Sputnik, Athens sent a request to the Russian authorities. The contribution of the Russian “beast”, as the Be-200 seaplane is called in Greece, was more than noticeable in the last fire in Varibobi, where it played a decisive role in extinguishing the fire. After the Russian “beast” poured water onto the burning area, the other planes had nothing to do there.
