US intelligence gained access to data from a Wuhan laboratory, but … in Mandarin Chinese

CNN reports receiving classified information from the Wuhan laboratory by US intelligence agencies. Now scientists have to decipher them, which turned out to be not so easy – all the information in the database is written in Chinese, or rather, in its Mandarin dialect.

CNN cites numerous knowledgeable sources and tells what is known to date.

Access to a database of virus samples studied at the Wuhan Institute of Virology. How exactly American intelligence did this is not reported. Experts say that, as a rule, the devices processed by genetic information are connected to cloud servers, which, under certain conditions, can be hacked. The intelligence uses supercomputers in the Department of Energy’s national laboratories to interpret this amount of raw data.

However, now the intelligence agencies are faced with an equally difficult problem – they need scientists who can decipher the data obtained. To do this, they must have access to classified information and knowledge of Mandarin Chinese. The channel’s source explains:

“Apparently there are scientists who have passed the security screening. But Mandarin speaking and screened? This is a very small pool. And not just scientists, but those who specialize in biology? You can see it getting harder and harder. “

In May, in response to a call from US President Joe Biden to “redouble efforts” to find the source of the origin of COVID-19, US intelligence informed the White House that it had some, as yet unexplored, data regarding the origin of the coronavirus. Intelligence said it would use “extraordinary” computing power to test the version of a COVID-19 leak from a laboratory in Wuhan.

Previously, this version was considered marginal, it was used only by supporters of conspiracy theories. In February, for example, Facebook began removing posts about the laboratory origin of COVID-19 along with publications about the dangers of vaccination. However, in May he changed his mind.

The leak from the Wuhan Institute of Virology, where the laboratory with the highest biosafety level (BSL-4) operates, is one of the main versions of the origin of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus. The institute’s researchers have been studying the coronaviruses of bats and conducting experiments to transform them. In total, according to Live Science, there are 59 BSL-4 laboratories in 23 countries in the world.

Many scientists considered the fact that the COVID-19 pandemic began with an outbreak in Wuhan, where they worked with coronaviruses, suspicious. A group of experts from the World Health Organization visited the Wuhan Institute of Virology and, as a result of their investigation, published a report where named The “extremely unlikely” version of a virus leak. USA critically took the report and got the WHO to admit that the laboratory version of the origin of the coronavirus was ruled out too early.

At the end of July this year, China refused WHO in conducting the second phase of studying the origin of COVID-19 on its territory, he called speculation about a possible leak of the virus from a Chinese laboratory. The Chinese authorities talk about the politicization of the issue, which significantly worsened the state’s relations with the United States and some countries, claiming that the information provided by Beijing at the beginning of the pandemic was incomplete and opaque. China claims that there is no virus in the Wuhan laboratory that can directly infect a person, and refuses WHO to re-search for the source of COVID-19 in the PRC.

Formerly Donald Trump blamed China with data hiding and failure of sanitary measures. This, according to the former US president, led to a pandemic. However, China rejected the claims and in response stated that Western countries were responsible for the failures in the fight against COVID-19.
