According to firefighters, the fire is spreading along three fronts: Varibobi, Adames, Frakomakedoni.

Authorities temporarily closed part of the Athens-Lamia national highway in northeastern Attica after a massive fire broke out in the Upper Varibobi area on Tuesday afternoon.

About two hours earlier, residents of Varibobi and Kryoneri Attica were called to close doors, windows and chimneys after a thick black cloud arose over a fire in a nearby forest at the foot of Mount Parnitha. A little later, residents of the Aharne (Menidi) and Ano Liossia districts found themselves in a similar situation.

Residents have closed in their homes and are very worried that the fire would not come to them.

Due to a fire in Varibobi, a high-voltage line passing through the Acharnes-Agios Stefanos transmission areas was disconnected. This aggravated the situation in the capital’s power supply system, which led to power outages in several areas of northwestern Attica.
