Gas cylinder explosion blew up an apartment in Kato Patisia – grandmother and grandson were killed

Greek law enforcement agencies are investigating the tragic circumstances of an explosion in an apartment in Kato Patisia, which tragically killed an 80-year-old woman and her grandson.

The tragedy occurred early in the morning in an apartment located on the 4th floor of a five-story building at st. Folegandru, 38, Kato Patisia.

According to the information, there was an explosion of household gas (cylinder), as a result of which an 80-year-old woman was burned in the fire, and her grandson was thrown onto the sidewalk and tragically died. According to the fire service, a leak from a gas cylinder was found in the apartment, which is attributed to the explosion and fire.

The apartment is completely destroyed, with significant damage to nearby apartments. According to an eyewitness to the event, the explosion was of such force that one might think that it was an earthquake. And immediately thick smoke poured out of the window, and fire was visible.

Local authorities are conducting a preliminary investigation of all the circumstances of the tragedy.
