Flying over “red-hot” Athens (video)

Drones using thermal imagers captured the “thermal” Athens on Sunday. The Greek capital literally heated up, on the Acropolis the temperature of marble and cement reached 55 ° C.

The Up Stories team, in collaboration with meteo.gr, provided a unique opportunity to “see” the heat waves over the Acropolis and the central square of the capital city of Omonia with a video taken in flight with a drone with a thermal imaging camera. The images show the Sacred Rock, where surface temperatures exceeded + 55 ° C, and the historic center of Athens, Omonia Square.

According to the data of the weather station of the National Observatory of Athens / meteo.gr, in the city center, the maximum temperature indicators were recorded on the roofs of old buildings and on asphalt pavement (+ 60 ° C or more), the lowest – near the fountain in Omonia Square and on the facades of new buildings – up to + 35 ° C.

Extreme hot conditions will continue until at least Thursday 05/08. From today, Monday, August 2, the arrival of hot air masses from Africa is expected to intensify. The temperature will increase. The expected maximums vary in the range of 43-45 degrees, locally they can reach + 46-47 ° С. A decrease in temperature is expected from Friday 6 August.
