Unprecedented heat: in 87 regions of Greece, the air temperature exceeded + 40 ° С

In 87 districts, the air temperature exceeded + 40 ° С and reached + 44.6 ° С in Messinia.

As officially reported, on Saturday, July 31, unprecedented heat prevailed across the country. According to the network of automatic meteorological stations of the National Observatory of Athens / meteo.gr, the mercury column has risen or exceeded + 40 ° С at 87 meteorological stations located in different parts of the country. Meteorologists recorded an absolute temperature maximum of + 44.6 ° C.

The areas where the eight highest peaks were recorded are shown in the table below.

One of the most alarming scenarios predicts that the heat wave will last up to 10 days, i.e. most of the next week, presumably including Thursday 5 August. The air temperature in some places will rise to + 45 ° С.

Fires are raging in the country, and power supply networks barely bear the load…
