Burnt houses and evacuated villages – Fire continues to rage in Patras.
The roads around the perimeter of the city are closed, the fire at the foot of Panachaikos is not controlled. Patras Mayor Costas Peletidi told Newsbeast that the flames reached the streets.
The police have blocked roads and deployed motorists. The mayor says:
“In particular, cars from Pyrgos go to the Glafkos junction, and the cars in Patras to the Eglikada junction. The Olympia Odos staff also help to stop and detour. The front of fire has already approached Riganokampos. From 3 to 4 houses burned down, we are trying them. put out, and the fire did not spread to other houses. The fire is in full swing. “
Theodoros Baris, Mayor of Eurymantos, notes:
“The situation on our front is very problematic. The fire is out of control so far, the problem is that due to the many fronts, there is a large amount of fragmentation of the fire department. Unfortunately the wind is strong and constantly changing direction. The villages of Drosia and Pteri have already been evacuated, and residents have moved to Patras and other safe villages. The houses are not in danger yet, but I don’t know how long it will last. ”
Fifty firefighters, 16 vehicles and 2 firefighting teams fight the fire. Two planes and five helicopters are involved, they are dropping water from the air. Firefighters are assisted by water vehicles from the municipality of Patras.
