UK: new mutation of coronavirus discovered

Experts from PHE, the public health agency for England, are reporting a new strain of coronavirus called B.1.621. The carriers are 16 people who recently returned from abroad. Analyzes of the detected mutation are being carried out, reports The Mirror.

To date, it is impossible to say how effective vaccines are against the new variant of the coronavirus, and whether the detected strain causes a more severe form of the disease – experts are conducting a comprehensive analysis of it.

Two weeks ago, WHO once again warned on the spread of new strains of coronavirus. The most widespread in the world are the variants Alpha (173 countries), Beta (122), Gamma (74), Delta (104). Meanwhile, the coronavirus continues to mutate, concern is the rapid emergence of new strains: Iota, Eta, Kappa, Lambda. And the Russian version has not yet received an official name, experts are studying its characteristics. New varieties have become a real test of the effectiveness of the vaccines used, because not all of them are equally successful in coping with the new challenges of the coronavirus. WHO tirelessly monitors the emergence of new strains in the world, their presence is established in laboratories.
