“However, we do not think that the final death toll will increase so much. I don’t know if we can find all the dead. We will not stop. “
According to the latest figures from the Koblenz police, in the state of Rhineland-Palatinate, the most affected by heavy rains, 132 people perished and 766 received various injuries, 149 are missing. The search for the missing continues with the help of helicopters and 30 specially trained dogs, the main attention is paid to the woodlands, where the missing could have been carried away by the water stream.
In the neighboring state of North Rhine-Westphalia, 47 people have died. Cologne police announces a search for two missing persons. One person died in Bavaria, in the south of the country. And the meteorological service has issued a warning about weather changes: more rains are expected on the weekend, and again in the west of the country.
In Belgium 36 people fell victim to extreme weather events, increasing the total number of flood deaths to 216. Heavy rains and floods also invaded neighboring countries – Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Austria. Fortunately, no one died there.
