According to a statement by Maria Theodoridou at an official briefing by the Ministry of Health, held on Monday July 19, the chances of contracting the Delta strain in those vaccinated against the coronavirus are small, but real.
Maria Teodoridou stressed that 90% of those hospitalized in intensive care units and in critical condition are unvaccinated citizens. However, as the chairman of the vaccination committee said, the likelihood that fully vaccinated citizens will get sick is very small. The expert clarified: extremely negligible.
Ms Theodoridou stressed that for fully vaccinated citizens suffering from major diseases, “it is very unlikely that they will become seriously ill and will need a 3rd additional dose of vaccine”.
“Groups of immunocompromised people are the first to be screened and receive the third dose of the vaccine, since they have been proven to be the first to do so,” said Maria Theodoridou, when asked when (and whether) the third dose of vaccine will be given.
“In addition, vulnerable groups of citizens that we are monitoring have an immune response. “It has been several months since the basic (main) vaccination scheme,” explained the chairman of the vaccination committee.
