WHO statement: a new wave of COVID-19 pandemic begins in the world

The head of the World Health Organization Tedros Adanom Ghebreyesus announced the beginning of the third wave of the pandemic in the world.

The WHO Director General spoke about the high growth rates of morbidity and mortality from coronavirus. For the first time after 10 previous weeks, the number of deaths is increasing again, TASS quoted him as saying. One of the main factors in the growth of indicators of new infections is the “delta plus” strain. The spread of COVID-19, according to the head of WHO, is “fueled by increased social contacts and mobility, as well as inconsistent application of proven health and social measures.”

Gebreyesus said that the Indian strain has already been registered in 111 countries. WHO experts expect that “soon it will become the dominant option circulating in the world, if not already.”

In an earlier statement, the head of WHO drew attention to the fact that the “delta” variant is highly infectious compared to all other mutations… The most difficult situation remains in countries with limited access to vaccines. He sharply criticized the strategy of “vaccine nationalism”, when a small group of countries have the “lion’s share” of drugs for coronavirus. But even given the success of the vaccination campaign in other states, the pandemic, in his opinion, did not end anywhere.
