How to “recognize” an Indian strain

Doctor of Biological Sciences Alexander Buteyko, head of the laboratory of biology at the Ivanovsky Institute of Virology, named in an interview with Ura.ru four main symptoms of the SARS-CoV-2 delta strain of coronavirus.

Most often, when infected with the Indian variant of the coronavirus, 4 symptoms appear: a runny nose, severe headache, manifestations from the gastrointestinal tract, high fever. Dr. Buteyko clarifies:

“Patients most often have severe headaches, initially there is a high fever, a runny nose, which was practically absent during previous outbreaks of the pandemic, disorders in the gastrointestinal tract. The person burns out uncontrollably. The situation is very difficult. “

It is already known that the main victim of the choice of the Indian option is the youth. With increased contagiousness (infectiousness), the carrier of the “delta” variant transmits it to a much larger number of others than the Wuhan strain. Another feature is a decrease in the incubation period to 2-4 days (compared to 3-14).

The doctor of biological sciences argues that it is too early to talk about the increased lethality of a new strain – there is not enough research. The delta variant has resulted in a huge number of deaths in India, but it is likely that this rate was influenced by the poor level of medical care in the country.

World Health Organization experts say the organization has no data on increased mortality from delta option… Melita Vujnovic, WHO representative, informed that the Indian strain has already been found in 90 countries, including – in Greece

Charalambos Gogos, professor of pathology and infectious diseases at the University of Patras and member of the scientific committee of the Ministry of Health says:

“This is a more complex strain than the previous ones, it is spreading around the world and quite quickly. In a short time, the number of cases has doubled in many countries. We are concerned that it will become the dominant strain in the EU and Greece. The most powerful weapon we have to fight coronavirus and mutations is wide and rapid vaccination coverage in general, not only in our country, in order to reduce the likelihood of the virus multiplying in society and create the necessary herd immunity. We have a pandemic so this is very important. Compliance with personal protective measures should be on the agenda, that is, using a mask indoors or in crowded places. “

New security measures were announced on Tuesday July 6 by Deputy Minister of Civil Protection and Crisis Management Nikos Hardalias during an emergency briefing that took place following a sharp increase in coronavirus cases.

Hardalias said that the cause of the new wave was the Delta strain, which is especially actively spreading among young people, and this happens in bars and clubs:

“The delta mutation began to prevail, and the unvaccinated were in danger. Since last Monday, we have recorded a spike in new cases, which have nearly tripled. They have been found mainly in young people and mainly in recreational activities in clubs and bars, which contributes to the transmission of infection. “

Over the past 24 hours, hundreds of cases have been recorded, and after investigation it turned out that they appeared after visiting entertainment venues. It is noteworthy that in the southern sector of Athens, where 66% of cases are between the ages of 15-24, and in particular in the municipalities of Alimos and Glyfada, on Tuesday there was a positive value of 6.1% and 8.4%, respectively.
