Synod of the EOC accused the hierarchs who did not recognize the OCU

The Synod of the EOC accused the hierarchs who did not recognize the OCU of disrespect for church authority, of undermining the unity of the Church of Greece with the Ecumenical Patriarchate.

The Synodal Committee on Doctrinal and Canonical Issues of the Greek Orthodox Church has formulated claims against the two metropolitans, who harshly criticized the recognition of the OCU, as well as criticized measures to combat coronavirus, the newspaper reports. Аgeliaforos.com

Metropolitan of Aetolia and Acarnania Cosmas (Papachristos) and Metropolitan of Kythera and Antikythera Seraphim (Stergiulis) are accused of “disrespect for church authority, theological errors, moral incitement to disobedience of believers in relation to the state and the church’s proposals on health issues.”

In addition, the members of the committee concluded that with their letters and their sharply negative position on the OCU, the metropolitans “shatter the unity of the Church of Greece with the Ecumenical Patriarchate in Orthodox matters and question its canonical (Ukrainian) privileges.”

Greek media report that the Synodal Committee for Doctrinal and Canonical Issues of the Greek Orthodox Church has opened a case against the said metropolitans.

Not everyone in Greece agreed with this admission and tried to resist the split. In February 2020, members of the All-Greek Orthodox Union, clergy and laity, demanded at the court to annul the decision of the Episcopal Council of the EOC on the recognition of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine. But to no avail.

Metropolitan Seraphim called on the head of the Church of Greece not to serve with Dumenko.

Metropolitan Seraphim of Kifir statedthat the decision on recognition is invalid, since the vote at the Council of Bishops was not carried out, which means that it is not legitimate.

It is worth noting that Archbishop Jerome of Athens and All Greece does not personally experience joy from what is happening, but is forced to submit to pressure from “colleagues” and “leadership” in the person of Bartholomew and the US administration that supports him.

As previously reported, the Church of Greece, after persistent requests and overt pressure by the US Ambassador to Greece Geoffrey Payette, as well as Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, acknowledged the artificially created Sacred Church of Ukraine (CCU or OCU). What led the EOC to the severance of relations with the ROC.
