The notorious “protection”, the police suggest, was the reason for the beating, wounding and hospitalization of the 20-year-old shareholder of a cafe-bar in Halkidiki.
It all happened early Sunday morning. According to the police, seven people drove up by car and motorbike to a café-bar located in Pefkohori. They confidently went to the young man, who, according to initial data, is a shareholder of the establishment.
The guy tried to hide in the store, but they caught up with him, started beating him, and then one of them used a pistol. The young man received a piercing wound in the thigh and was taken to hospital, while the attackers fled in their vehicles.
It did not take long for the police to identify the two criminals – they are persons of Albanian origin, members of the Thessaloniki group. One of them is 21 years old, the second – 29. The first is already known to law enforcement agencies – he was released from prison less than a year ago, in October. He is on trial of the 2nd degree on serious charges – for illegal possession and use of weapons, as well as for attempted murder.
A police source said that the reason for the attack, apparently, was a financial disagreement in the payment of the so-called “protection” or “protection”. The police talk about the gangs of “night godfathers”, with the beginning of the exit from quarantine for coronavirus and the opening of institutions in connection with the tourist season, they have re-activated.
The police are as vigilant as possible trying to prevent similar incidents. An investigation is underway to find and arrest the criminals.
