English and Ukrainian fans will not get to the quarter-finals match of Euro 2020

UEFA (Union of European Football Associations) has blocked tickets bought by English fans for the European Championship quarterfinal match to be held in Rome on 3 July between England and Ukraine. Ukrainian fans will not be able to come to the match either.

It’s all about the safety requirements for coronavirus in force in Italy for travelers from the United Kingdom. A 5-day quarantine has been introduced for them, which cannot be completed due to the time remaining before the match. Therefore, in order to avoid violating antiquated rules, the sale of tickets for fans of the Three Lions has been discontinued, and those already purchased have been blocked, the Italian Ministry of Internal Affairs reported on July 1.

Moreover, those who have visited the UK in the last 2 weeks will not be able to get to the England-Ukraine match. The reason was the rapid spread of the Indian variant of the coronavirus there. Delta… Since the beginning of the pandemic, more than 4.72 million people have fallen ill in the country, the number of deaths has exceeded 128,000. After the successful completion of the third wave, amid mass vaccinations, the authorities gradually relaxed restrictive measures and had to lift them completely on June 21st. However, the rapid spread of the Delta strain forced the government to postpone this deadline until July 19.

117 people have died from the Indian variant of the coronavirus in the UK. Moreover, 50 of them were fully vaccinated, and 20 received the first dose. Scientists call this figure paradoxical, and netizens doubted the effectiveness of vaccination, Le Figaro reports.

However, Ukrainian fans are not in the best position either. They will not be able to attend the match of their national team with the British, the Ukrainian embassy in Italy said on Facebook on July 1. The diplomats recalled that, according to the classification of the Italian government, Ukraine belongs to the group of countries of the “E” category. This was reported by the UEFA press service. Currently, travel from Ukraine to Italy is prohibited without a good reason – the decision was made due to the coronavirus pandemic.

On June 29, England reached the European Championship playoffs, beating Germany 2-0. On the same day Ukrainian team, after defeating Sweden, for the first time in history reached the European Championship quarterfinals from third place in a group, thanks to a better goal difference than the other two teams, who were third in their groups with three points. Experts believe that the current performance of the Ukrainian team can rightfully be called the best in the history of its participation in the European championships. After the first in the history of the team reaching the quarterfinals of the European championship, the Ukrainians will meet with the England national team on the evening of July 3 in Rome, at 22:00.
