Skiathos gave honorary citizenship to Richard Romanus and Antaea Silbert.

The Mayor of Skiathos on Sunday presented certificates of honorary citizenship to Hollywood film producer and costume designer Anthea Silbert and her partner, writer and actor Richard Romanus. The ceremony was also attended by actors Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell, their close friends.

The couple have resided permanently on the island for several years, and the ceremony took place in their home for health reasons that prevent them from moving around.

Mayor of Skiathos Todoris Tsumas said that it was a great honor for him to choose the place as a permanent home for people who not only fell in love with him, but also showed a sincere interest in studying its history, culture and especially people, became part of modern history, leaving Hollywood and going to the island.

Richard Romanus earned a degree in philosophy from Xavier University and, after studying law and music, studied acting at the renowned acting studio founded by Elia Kazan. He has starred in countless films and television series, co-wrote and produced films with Silbert, and in 1999 they were nominated for Best Screenplay in the United States. Since 2000, he began writing books about Skiathos and has published four books in English.

Anthea Silbert studied art history and was one of the top costume designers in Hollywood. She has worked on 21 films and received two Academy Award nominations and an EMMY Award for her work with some of Hollywood’s greatest directors. Among other things, she strongly supports the return of the Parthenon marble sculptures to Greece.
