Italian Prime Minister: Russians may never be able to get to Europe

Mario Draghi, Prime Minister of Italy, claims that if the EMA disapproves of the Russian vaccine, the way to Europe for citizens of the Russian Federation will be closed.

This forecast was announced by the Italian prime minister at a press conference in Brussels following a meeting of EU leaders, RIA Novosti reported. He does not exclude that the European Medicines Agency will never give consent to the use of Sputnik V in Europe, and the Russians who received vaccinations with this drug will not be able to cross the borders of the European Union.

At the same time, the Italian prime minister did not go into the details of what his assumptions were based on, but he was no less skeptical about the Chinese vaccine:

“We focused on the individual vaccines used and stated that the Russian vaccine has not yet been able to receive and may never receive EMA approval, and the Chinese vaccine, which has not been applied for, does not seem to meet the requirements for combating the pandemic, as the experience of Chile shows. “.

On March 4, the process of examination of “Sputnik V” was launched at the European agency EMA. At one of its stages, the media rushed to report that the consideration was impeded by the failure to provide the requested information. However, in the commentary of the press service of the RDIF (Russian Direct Investment Fund) it was said that: the European agency responded positively about the drug, Sputnik V may receive registration in the EU in the next 2 months, the GCP EMA inspection has been completed, and all data on any delays are not true.

RDIF representatives also noted that the timing of the registration of the Russian drug EMA has become the subject of incessant discussions and speculation in the media, while their sources are anonymous. Such speculations, RIA Novosti reports, “slow down the registration process.” The fund assured:

“The examination continues, there is no talk of any delays.”

Meanwhile, Sergei Lavrov, head of the Russian Foreign Ministry, discussed with Italian Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio the possibility of resuming regular flights. He noted that the Headquarters of the Russian Federation approved the restoration of flights between the two countries, TASS reported.

Europe is already ready to accept tourists from countries included in the approved list, but individual states refuse to accept tourists without a new entry document. The rules of restrictions on entry to Greece can be found here… It is noted that the number of Schengen visas issued to Russian tourists has decreased by 85% compared to 2019.
