Very high air and surface temperatures were recorded by drones circling over areas of Athens. The drones were equipped with thermal imaging cameras to take appropriate measurements.
The drone flight was prepared and carried out by the Up Stories team in cooperation with the meteo.gr of the National Observatory of Athens.
The highest surface temperature recorded by a thermal imager was + 72 ° C, while the road temperature on Singru Avenue (Fix) reached + 47 ° C, and in the Amfitheas area + 44 ° C. The air temperature, according to the meteorological stations of the National Observatory of Athens / meteo.gr, was + 37 ° C in the center of Athens and + 31 ° C in the coastal regions. Highest temperatures recorded on low-traffic streets, side streets and on the rooftops of old air-conditioned houses.
From the collected data, according to meteorologists, it is easy to understand the great importance of using ecological materials in the construction of buildings and floors in the city, which help to reduce the accumulation of heat in the air near the ground and, therefore, can reduce the “stove” effect.
