A fire that broke out at a martial arts school for children and adolescents killed at least 18 minors aged 7-16.
At the time of the fire at a school in Henan Province, China, most of the students were on the second floor of a building, in a martial arts hall, according to the Beijing Youth Daily. Local authorities in Zhejiang County say that, in addition to the deaths from the fire, 16 people were injured, and four are in critical condition.
According to CGTN, the headmaster has been arrested, but it is not yet clear what caused the tragic fire. The name of the school, as well as the data of the director, are not made public.
Such tragedies, alas, are not uncommon in a densely populated Asian country. The safety of buildings in China is often overlooked, and the city planning code is violated by structures.
