A record number of deaths was registered today in Russia – 548, yesterday the deaths were only 2 people less, 546. Most of the patients are carriers of the infamous Delta strain, first identified in India.
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said today:
“The spread of this (Indian) variant of the coronavirus began in April, continued in May and is now peaking on a massive scale. This explains a lot: a huge number of young people who fall ill, the fact that 20-30% of seriously ill people are in intensive care units, an increase in mortality, etc. “
He refrained from predictions, only added:
“In my opinion, the situation will be difficult; in general, one should not relax and make any optimistic forecasts. The health care system is pushing its limits after the outbreak of new cases, which has prompted stricter restrictions in the Russian capital of 13 million residents. ”
Russia announced today that over the past day, 17,594 new cases and 548 deaths have been registered. In the Russian capital – 88 deaths in 24 hours, which was the highest figure since February 11.
