Covid-19 outbreak in Artek

60 children and 16 counselors are in isolation in the Artek camp in Crimea, the diagnosis of coronavirus was confirmed in 12 schoolchildren who arrived from the Russian capital and the Moscow region, TASS reports, citing the words of the camp director Konstantin Fedorenko.

Director Artek says:

“We currently have 60 children in the observatory – these are contact, and in medical institutions there are 12 children – those who have confirmed covid. Now there are isolated contact counselors – 16 people.”

According to Fedorenko, the infected children are schoolchildren from Moscow and the Moscow region aged 9-15 years. He assured that all patients have a mild course of the disease, practically without symptoms. Schoolchildren with such manifestations as a runny nose, fever, sore throat are sent to a medical institution in order to avoid the spread of infection. The director says:

“And if it is confirmed that there is a covid, then we with Rospotrebnadzor conduct an epidemiological investigation, identify the circle of contacts, and we send these contacts on the route map, both sick and contact.”

He explained that infected children are sent to hospitals in Sevastopol and Yalta, and those who were in contact with them are sent to the observators of Armyansk and Evpatoria. 2535 children from 82 regions of Russia are currently on vacation at “Artek”. The first cases of Covid-19 infection in the camp were reported yesterday by the Deputy Minister of Health of Crimea. As of yesterday, the infection was confirmed in 6 schoolchildren, today – in 12 children.

And in Moscow, the record continues outbreak of coronavirus disease, anti-epidemic measures have been strengthened. The Governor of the Russian capital states that cases of a relapse of coronavirus have been detected in citizens vaccinated with Sputink-V. This weakens the position of the vaccine, since, according to scientists, immunity must be maintained for at least 2 years.

The statement by the Governor of Moscow is troubling, as what is happening speaks of the resistance of the Sputnik-V vaccine to the Indian strain of coronavirus. Sergei Sobyanin said that cases of the reappearance of coronavirus in citizens who have undergone a full vaccination cycle have been identified in Moscow
