Russia: plane crash with parachutists

In the Kemerovo region of Russia, a plane with paratroopers made a hard landing. There were 24 people on board: 9 were killed, including 2 pilots, 15 were injured.

This is a light-engine aircraft of the L-410 type, which took off from the Tanai airfield. During the flight, one of the engines failed, which caused the aircraft to return to the airfield. Sergei Tsivilev, the region’s governor, said it was a training flight with 17 parachutists on board. The aircraft belongs to DOSAAF – the Voluntary Society for Assistance to the Army, Aviation and Navy of Russia. The Investigative Committee opened a criminal case on the fact of the crash, the Main Department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations activated a helpline. All flights have been terminated.

The L-410 Turbolet is a multi-purpose twin-engine aircraft that was developed in the late 1960s by the Czechoslovak company Let Kunovice. It is suitable for operation on grass, unpaved, and snowy areas, on airfields with short runways.
