Crimean Venice – two monthly norms of precipitation fell on the peninsula

Abnormal rains on Thursday night caused flooding in the Crimea and brought a lot of troubles. An emergency situation on a regional scale has been introduced, there are no fatalities as a result of the disaster.

In Kerch, 2 monthly precipitation rates fell, people move along the streets in boats. Tatiana Lyubetskaya, head of the Crimean hydrometeorological center, reports on the amount of precipitation: in Kerch 82 mm, in the Kerch Strait 73 mm, in Belogorsk 88 mm, in Mysovoye 43 mm, in Simferopol 28 mm.

In Crimea, 125 people, including 28 children, were evacuated from the flooded areas. An emergency regime was introduced in Kerch, and later it was expanded to cover the entire peninsula. According to the city administration, about 300 buildings, adjoining territories, and the city hospital are flooded. In addition to the water falling from the heavens, the Melek-Chesme River came out of the banks. Transport is paralyzed. Motor boats have become the most popular means of transportation.

The head of the city administration Sergei Borozdin assured that the evacuated residents of Kerch will be accommodated at recreation centers and hotels, and they will be provided with food. The city has strengthened control over the quality of water, utilities additionally disinfect it manually. The authorities promise to pump out water from city streets within a few hours.

In Feodosia, trees were felled, houses were de-energized, a gas pipeline was damaged. Due to the flooding of pumping stations, about 20,000 Crimeans were left without drinking water. 16 base stations of mobile communication do not function, more than 100 transformer substations are de-energized.

The head of Crimea, Sergei Aksenov, who examined the extent of the damage while traveling by boat, said that the authorities would compensate for the damage to the residents of the eastern part of the peninsula, where the rains caused flooding. According to Aksenov, no one died due to bad weather.

Forecasters predict that the weather in the region will not improve until June 18.
