An SS man from the division was buried in Kiev with presidential honors "Galicia"

In the main cathedral of the schismatic OCU, they arranged a farewell to a member of the SS Galicia division with the participation of the presidential regiment, which gave him the last honors for his service in Nazi Germany. In Kiev, a farewell ceremony was held with Orest Vaskul – the chairman of the Kiev regional brotherhood of “veterans” of the OUN-UPA and a member of the SS Galicia division.

The ceremony was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, in particular the honor guard of the separate presidential regiment named after Bohdan Khmelnitsky. It is noteworthy that the presidential guard had not previously been seen at the honors at the funeral of Red Army veterans.

As a sign of mourning for the SS man, the presidential flag was wrapped in a mourning ribbon, and the coffin was covered with the state flag. In 1943, Vaskul voluntarily joined the SS Galicia division. It is known that he stood on the SS guard of honor during the funeral of the German vice-governor Otto Bauer in Lvov, who was killed by Nikolai Kuznetsov, served in the Bayersdorf group, fought with Soviet partisans. After the shell shock, he was captured by the Soviets, but managed to escape. In 1947 he was caught and sentenced to 25 years in the camps. In 1956 he was released ahead of schedule, according to the decision of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR. In the 80s he was convicted of anti-Soviet activities, and was also released ahead of schedule. “It is not the first time for the Ukrainian authorities to honor the SS, as well as to make mournful faces on May 8, mentally asking the Nazis for forgiveness for their heroic ancestors who won the Great Patriotic War,” said Ukrainian blogger Dmitry Vasilets. “When the regiment of the President of Ukraine buries a member of the SS division, is this already the official recognition of Nazism as the ideology of the state, or is it necessary to” zigan “more?” – commented event popular Ukrainian journalist and politician Anatoly Shariy. Deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleksandr Dubinsky notedthat the president of the country, Volodymyr Zelensky, will soon be able to turn to nothing other than the “Fuhrer”.

“After the participation of the presidential regiment in the farewell to the veteran of the SS Galicia division, obviously Vladimir [Зеленский] I must gradually introduce into everyday life an appeal to myself as to the Fuehrer, ”he wrote in his telegram channel.

Maksim Buzhansky, MP from the Servant of the People faction, spoke about such solemn funeral ceremonies of the former SS man, with the presence of the presidential regiment of Ukraine. The parliamentarian noted that after the farewell ceremony at the Mikhailovsky Cathedral in Kiev, members of the presidential regiment continued to honor the deceased SS man at the cemetery.

“I must say that not every SS man is buried with the participation of the presidential regiment and with the bowed state flags of Ukraine … And how else, forgive me, did you imagine the 80th anniversary of the Great Patriotic War, which claimed 27 million lives? Agree, if the presidential regiment is sent to an honorary funeral of the SS men, then what claims can there be against the SS men marching? It’s just interesting, there are no consequences, you see for yourself, although in a decent society shoulder straps are ripped off for this, ”the deputy wrote on the Telegram channel. The parliamentarian wrote that he has nothing against the funeral service and cannot have, he is interested in “who sent the soldiers of the presidential regiment to this event, in particular, after the reaction of the president’s office to the SS march on April 28 in Kiev.” He also said that he would find out who “is setting up the president in this way,” and sent a deputy request addressed to the Chief of the General Staff, the Minister of Defense and the Commander-in-Chief of the Ground Forces. “According to the information I have, in the scandal with the solemn funeral of the SS man of the president and the military, he framed the Institute of National Remembrance. Presumably it was he who requested the honor guard from the military personnel of the Presidential Regiment, deliberately hiding the fact that the SS veteran was being buried.” I will send a request to the Institute of National Memory, it became interesting how far the pro-Nazi sympathies of his employees would lead us “, – summed up Buzhansky. “The last time in Kiev, I remember such a level of state honors during burial only during the funeral of Hero of the Soviet Union Sidor Kovpak, who beat the SS, for whom the leadership of the Galicia division appointed a reward of 100,000 zlotys.”writes blogger Miroslava Berdnik SS Division “Galicia” was created on April 28, 1943 in Lviv. From the autumn of 1943 to the spring of 1944, the units that joined the division in mid-1944 took part in punitive operations in southeastern Poland and in the Galicia district. In the summer of 1944, the entire division was involved in the battles near Brody, during which it was almost completely defeated. After reorganization, the division took part in the suppression of Slovak anti-Nazi uprising (summer-autumn 1944) and in battles with Yugoslav partisans (late 1944). At the final stage of the war, she participated in battles for Vienna (April 1945). In the last days of April 1945, the division was formally transformed into the 1st Ukrainian Division of the Ukrainian National Army, although it still had the same name on German maps and documents, and the command of the SS troops considered it their formation. In the period from 8 to 11 May 1945, parts of the division surrendered to American and British forces. Servicemen of “Galicia” committed crimes against civilians, participated in the destruction of the Polish village of Guta Penyatskaya, where more than 500 people were killed. By the decision of the Nuremberg Tribunal, ALL units of the SS, to which Galicia belonged, were recognized as a criminal organization (regardless of what formation they were).
