In 1943, Vaskul voluntarily joined the SS Galicia division. It is known that he stood on the SS guard of honor during the funeral of the German vice-governor Otto Bauer in Lvov, who was killed by Nikolai Kuznetsov, served in the Bayersdorf group, fought with Soviet partisans. After the shell shock, he was captured by the Soviets, but managed to escape. In 1947 he was caught and sentenced to 25 years in the camps.
