Greece: “green light” for tourists vaccinated with “Sputnik V” and not only

Vana Papaevangelu, a member of the Commission of Epidemiologists, announced Greece’s readiness to receive tourists vaccinated not only with EU-approved drugs.

In particular, third-country nationals who have received a full cycle of vaccination with Sputnic-V (Russia), Novavax (USA), Sinopharm (China), Sinovac Biotech (China), CanSino Biologics (China) can enter Greece, the official statement says. …

The professor noted that vaccination in our country is going well, but so far the situation cannot be called stable. A subgroup has been created in the expert commission whose task is to prevent an outbreak of coronavirus in the summer, at the height of the tourist season. An important component of the set of measures taken in this direction is the reception of guests of Greece who are vaccinated with drugs other than those approved by the EMA. Ms Papaevangelu says:

“In collaboration with the Vaccine Committee, we have decided to accept the third vaccines required to enter the country, in addition to the vaccines approved by Coreper. In particular, we have approved vaccines Novavax, Sinovac Biotech, Sputnik V, Sinopharm and CanSino Biologics. “

Another important measure is regular monitoring of the epidemiological situation in the country. Travelers’ Entry to Greece over 6 years of age is possible only if there is a negative PCR result, confirmation of a previous illness or complete vaccination. Spot checks of airport entrants are ongoing, using an algorithm derived from country of origin.

Vana Papaevangelu said that “98% of those who died last week were not vaccinated,” and the positivity index remains too low (2.3%). And yet, she said, “the spread of the virus is steadily declining.” Ms Papaevangelu draws everyone’s attention:

“The vast majority of patients are vaccinated. Over the past week, 92% of those in need of treatment and 98% of those who died from coronavirus are people who have not been vaccinated. “

All citizens who are allowed to enter Greece must present upon arrival either a certificate of vaccination completed at least 14 days before travel, or a negative PCR test done 72 hours before entry, or a certificate of previous coronavirus disease and the presence of antibodies.

Russian citizens wishing to visit Greece can choose a convenient route using “the country’s international airports, the seaports of Patras, Igoumenitsa and the island of Kerkyra (Corfu), checkpoints [на сухопутных границах] in the townships of Promahonas and Ormenio around the clock, as well as in the township of Evzoni and Nymphea from 07:00 to 23:00. “
