TASS photo exhibition on Russian-Greek relations opens in the Greek Parliament

On June 7, 2021, in Athens, at the Congress Center of the Greek Parliament, the grand opening of an exhibition of photographs from the archives of the TASS News Agency about the history of Russian-Greek relations took place.

The event was organized by the Russian Embassy in Greece in cooperation with the Fund for the Development of Parliamentarism and Democracy of the Parliament of the Hellenic Republic in cooperation with TASS in the framework of the Russia-Greece Year of History 2021, which is held under the patronage of the President of the Russian Federation and the Prime Minister of the Hellenic Republic.

The ceremony was attended by Deputy Chairman of the Greek Parliament A. Buras, Secretary General of the Presidential Administration of Greece V. Papadopoulos, deputy, ex-Minister of Foreign Affairs G. Katrungalos, MPs and senior officials of the Greek Foreign Ministry; from the Russian side – First Deputy Director General of the TASS Information Agency M.S. Gusman and Ambassador to Greece A.M. Maslov (made greetings). Representatives of the scientific community, the diplomatic corps, the media, the capital’s public were present.

The exhibition presents unique photographs covering the period from the end of the ΧΙΧ century to the present day and capturing the bright moments of the joint history. High-level contacts are reflected, among them – the recent meetings of the leaderships of the two countries; cultural and humanitarian dialogue, including visits by artists; trips of such legendary figures as the world’s first cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin and the hero of the Greek anti-fascist Resistance Manolis Glezos.

The exposition is supplemented with copies of documents from Russian archives about the relations between Russia and Greece over the centuries, incl. at the time of the birth and formation of the modern Greek state, materials about Russian philhellenes and Greeks in the Russian military and diplomatic service, books by Russian researchers in Greek and the works of Greek specialists about the glorious pages of our common thousand-year history.

The TASS photo exhibition will become a landmark event in the Year of History’s program of events.
