The first overseas visit of US Vice President Kamala Harris did not start very well – the airliner had to land at the take-off site at Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland.
The reason for the emergency return was a technical problem, RIA Novosti reports, citing information from the politician’s pool journalists. During takeoff from the military base on June 6, it was observed that the landing gear of the vice president’s plane was “making an unusual noise.”
After making the decision to return, the plane landed safely at the departure point. Simone Sanders, spokeswoman for Harris, said: “There are no major security concerns.”
As vice president, this is the first overseas visit by Harris, who previously served as California’s attorney general and state senator. Business trip itinerary – visiting Guatemala and Mexico. Kamala Harris became the head of the US National Space Council last month. In his commentary on the appointment, Harris says:
“As I said earlier: in America, when we strive for the moon, we put our flag on it. I am honored to lead our National Space Council. ”
Harris is the first African American and Asian vice president in United States history.
