An American tourist was seriously injured yesterday and was urgently taken to the Rethymno hospital. The man who fell into the gorge had to be placed in the intensive care unit.
An unpleasant incident occurred during a hike of a group of ten tourists in the Patsos (St. Anthony) gorge in Amari, 23 km southeast of Rethymno. While walking through picturesque places, the injured man, a doctor by profession, slipped and fell on a steep rocky slope.
According to APE-MPE, the fire brigade and the 3rd EMAK were involved in the operation to rescue the tourist. After the injured American was taken to hospital, doctors diagnosed him with fractures of the lower body. Due to his serious condition, the 65-year-old tourist was admitted to the intensive care unit.
The Patsos gorge is located 8 km from the historic Arkadi monastery and is considered quite difficult for tourist walks, with difficult and narrow sections.
