Only 30% of hotels in Halkidiki are full in June

Hotel occupancy in Halkidiki is only 25-30% this month, and hoteliers are worried about how this summer season began, which for the second year in a row has been “in the shadow” of the coronavirus pandemic.

According to the President of the Panhellenic Federation of Hoteliers and the Association of Hotels (Πανελλήνιας Ομοσπονδίας Ξενοδόχων και της Ένωσης Ξενοδοχείων Χαλκιδικ 5) in Chalkidiki, only Grigoris Grigoris 4 hotels are reopened at the present time All of them are expected to open by the end of June.

According to Mr. Tassios, Halkidiki hoteliers expect tourists mainly from the Balkan countries, as well as from England, Germany and Russia.

“This is the second“ Covid season ”, – the expert emphasizes, pointing out that“ a hotel, in order to spend the season without “going into negative territory,” must have a occupancy rate of 40-50%, which, at the moment, is not happening. ”

Regarding July, Mr Tassios notes that there is some booking activity by Balkan citizens, but the inconvenience to tourists at the border, due to the slow access system and random checks, works as a deterrent.

All over the country, out of 10,000 hotels, 25% are open, while occupancy in June is at the same level as in Halkidiki (25-30%), and their full opening is also expected at the end of June.

Hoteliers on the islands keep an eye on airport activity, waiting for the arrival of tourists “like manna from heaven.” While foreign travelers postpone their vacation “until better times”, i. E. until the epidemiological picture improves.
