The drawing of the April lottery held by the Independent State Tax Office ΑΑΔΕ took place. A thousand lucky winners of the lottery of payments made by bank cards or on the Internet will receive 1,000 euros each.
The cash prize for 1000 winners will be paid through banking or other credit institutions.
If, for any reason, the winner has not yet opened a bank account, then he will be given three months from the date of sending a personalized message (about the win) so that he can indicate the bank account to which the prize money will be credited.
Taxpayers can consult the ΑΑΔΕ website: http://www.aade.gr/menoy/meniaies-synallages-kai-lachnoi to see if they are among the lucky ones.
The crediting of the amount corresponding to the cash prize will be carried out interest-free after specifying the bank account. The prize is not taxable, does not constitute income, and is not subject to government or third party withholding.
If the bank account is not announced within the above period, the amount corresponding to the prize will be paid to the next successive beneficiaries. If for any reason the cash prize is not awarded to any of the beneficiaries, the unpaid amount remains in the State’s account (Δημοσίου 200 “«λληνικό Δημόσιο – Συγκέντρωση Εισπράξεων – Πληρωμών).
The law even applies to those who do not want to participate in the lottery, because they are afraid, for example, of leakage of confidential personal data. A citizen can withdraw from a prize won in a particular draw within three months thereafter by submitting an application to ΑΑΔΕ.
If the prize is canceled, the next recipients will receive it. In any case, the lottery participants have the right to receive information, access and object to the collection of their personal data.

ΑΑΔΕ emphasizes that taxpayers over 18 years of age are eligible to participate in the lottery. To ensure participation in monthly sweepstakes, you must make at least one transaction using a plastic card or online purchase during the previous month. The Greek Ministry of Finance’s plan to establish a state lottery aims to encourage citizens to use plastic money and electronic payments in order to increase revenues to the state treasury, collect VAT and income tax.
The lottery implies that the more a person makes purchases with a card, the more likely it is to win.
