The ex-policeman turned out to be the leader of a gang of murderers; the bodies of 14 victims were found buried in his garden. Law enforcement officials believe that the total number of them may turn out to be much higher, among them – little girls.
Former police officer, 51-year-old Hugo Ernesto Osorio Chavez, was arrested on May 8 this year for the murder of two women – a 57-year-old mother and her 26-year-old daughter. In the course of the investigation, it was decided to search the garden located at his place of residence, 78 miles (78 km) from the capital of San Salvador. Last Thursday, May 20, law enforcement officers found the buried remains of 24 women at the site.
Forensic expert Israel Tikas told AFP that the exhumation is ongoing and could take at least a month. It is assumed that more bodies of the victims will be found, their number may reach 40. At the same time, among them, as it turned out after the interrogation of the arrested person, there may be two- and seven-year-old girls.
As noted by the police, their former colleague turned out to be the head of a gangster group, which, after the elimination of the unwanted, buried them in the private plot of Chavez. They believe that this macabre discovery helped uncover a secret network of assassins that has been operating in the country for more than 10 years. The ex-policeman previously had a conviction for rape, and is now arrested for double murder. Law enforcers report that most of the remains belong to girls and women.
During the search, 7 pits with corpses were found, some of the victims were buried 2 years ago. Among the accused in the case are at least 10 people. Among them are former policemen and soldiers, human traffickers.
Law enforcers believe that the ex-policeman has been killing people for 10 years. El Salvador Police Chief Mauricio Arrias Chikas says: “He told us he found victims on social media and approached them, seducing them with the American dream.” According to the Associated Press, citing data from the prosecutor’s office, among the victims may be girls 9, 7 and 2 years old.
On Thursday, dozens of people gathered outside the exhumation site, suspecting that their missing relatives could be among the victims of a former police officer.
