In Ecuador, police found a batch of cocaine-filled bananas. Belgium and Russia are indicated as recipients of the tropical fruit shipment.
Port police in Guayaquil seized 805 briquettes of cocaine disguised among bananas. Without specifying the weight of the consignment of drugs, law enforcement officials say that its cost exceeds several million dollars, TASS reports, citing local media outlets.
This method of transporting drugs at the international level is not new – the packages are hidden among bananas in boxes or placed inside fake fruits. Other fruits / vegetables – cucumbers, for example, can be used as a camouflage. One such batch of cucumber stuffed with methamphetamine weighing 100 kg was intercepted by police on the Farr Reynosa Bridge, which runs over the Rio Grande and connects Mexico and the United States.
