Crete: policeman carrying 43 kg of explosives turned out to be innocent

The court found not guilty police officer, who had 43 kg of explosives in his car. However, an official investigation has been ordered against him. The court of the city of Heraklion, Crete, today heard the case of a 43-year-old policeman who was detained at the wheel of a car on the morning of May 21. During a spot check on the Myron-Pompeii road, TAE Messaras found a large amount of explosives in his trunk.

The policeman was in the car registered in the name of his wife with his brother-in-law. It was only after the discovery of the dangerous cargo that he announced his status to the inspectors. At the same time, he claimed that he did not know about the contents of his trunk.

During the trial, the police officer’s brother-in-law took responsibility for the transportation of the cargo. According to him, the explosives were in his family’s warehouse, and he wanted to take them out. It is reported that the policeman was acquitted, and a criminal case was opened against his brother-in-law.

Nevertheless, the 43-year-old policeman has been suspended from his duties, as an official investigation has been ordered against him. …
