Attacker splashed acid in the man’s face

This afternoon, a man was admitted to the Chios hospital with burns to various parts of his body, one of which is very serious – his eyesight is damaged.

Authorities arrested a 25-year-old young man who is accused of assaulting a pregnant woman in Kipseli.

The burns are caused by a chemical in liquid form that a woman poured on him. Presumably a quarrel arose between them. Earlier, she set fire to the man’s motorcycle. Police have confirmed the incident and the information from Chios hospital is disappointing. Doctors are fighting to save the victim’s eye from chemical burns.

“Showdown” with the use of chemicals has recently been heard in Greece. Just a trial of a 36-year-old jealous woman took place, who poured sulfuric acid on her rival Ioanna (in Kallithea), and a young pregnant woman was attacked by her former lover, doused with chlorine.

A dangerous trend is “gaining momentum.” Experts believe that until criminals are punished to the fullest extent of the law, attack with caustic liquids may “come into fashion” as a method of revenge, which is scary even to think about!

The case of Joanna, doused with sulfuric acid in Kallithea

In the metropolitan area on May 20, 2020, a showdown took place between two women. One doused the other with sulfuric acid. At the same time, 34-year-old Ioanna was admitted to the hospital in serious condition. Doctors diagnosed a chemical burn of 20% of the patient’s body. Law enforcement agencies immediately launched an investigation into the brutal, personally motivated attack. According to preliminary information, the attacker committed the crime out of hatred and jealousy.

The victim of the crime, a young woman, went to work in the office that day. At 09:40 she entered the entrance of the building located on Fiseos Street (Kallithea) and stopped at the elevator. At that moment, a “dressed in black” woman in a protective mask approached her and suddenly splashed some liquid on her. As it turned out, it was sulfuric acid that got on the face and body of the victim. According to eyewitnesses, the criminal immediately retired, running across Fiseos Avenue, and took a taxi.

At this time, 34-year-old Ioanna began screaming in pain, and passers-by immediately rushed to her aid. The girl was taken to the nearest pharmacy, where the pharmacist helped the victim to take off the clothes that had literally melted and adhered to the skin, and provided first aid.

For three months the patient was treated in the burn center of the Triasio hospital. She has now undergone 10 recovery operations and is at home. Alas, John still has a long road to recovery.

Joanna dared to show her face for the first time

Almost a year after the attack in Kallithea, when a jealous rival doused Joanna with sulfuric acid, the girl is still in the process of recovery. She found the strength and courage to publicly show her face, giving the magazine “OK!” the right to publish her photo. After 10 operations, the girl, whose life collapsed overnight, is now forced to wear a hard plastic mask that “holds” her face and helps stabilize the healing tissues. But still, the burns on her face are noticeable, as well as on her hands. Maria Kalofonu, director of the plastic surgery and burn department at Triasio Hospital, told in the программеυτυχείτε program that Ioanna knew from the first moment about her health condition and prognosis. “The burns are very deep and widespread, spread over a large part of the body. In addition to the face, the hands and chest were affected. There are some burns on the side and back. Joanna knew the truth from the first moment. During the first few days, we gradually told her how things really were and never lied to her. She knew from the very beginning that she had a long way to go, ”says Johanna’s doctor. The doctor also mentioned the mask that John wears: “It has functional utility. It is a tool that aids healing and prevents the skin from pulling in the wrong direction. It also helps to maintain the elasticity of the skin. The big problem with burns is that the scars pull the face in unwanted directions. This is one of the biggest problems in plastic surgery and a mask like this is one way to deal with it. Joanna saw her face before leaving the hospital. She behaves very courageously. “This is a person who takes his problem very seriously,” says the doctor. Recall that 35-year-old Efi K., who poured acid on Joanna, has not yet apologized for what she had done, although her guilt has been fully proven.

The second case – an attack on a pregnant woman with bleach

Authorities arrested a 25-year-old young man who is accused of assaulting a pregnant woman in Kipseli.

According to information from police sources, the young man was detained in an apartment at his place of residence. The perpetrator is an old acquaintance of a 25-year-old pregnant woman. They met that evening to discuss their differences. But the guy decided to “punish” his girlfriend and put a cloth soaked in bleach to her face. And then he ran away. The victim with facial burns was admitted to the Evangelismos hospital.

The offender was taken to the prosecutor’s office. As “Russian Athens” wrote earlier, it was quickly established that the attacker had used household bleach – bleach. This substance, of course, is not an acid, which poured over John at Kallithea, but it can also damage health, especially vision. According to the TV channel ALPHA, the tests showed that the fabric with which the offender covered the mouth of the pregnant woman was soaked in bleach.

As a reminder, a city woman, who is 4 months pregnant, complained to ΕΛ.ΑΣ that an unknown man attacked her with caustic liquid when she walked along Kipseli at night (from Sunday to Monday, April 11-12). According to preliminary information, the woman covered her face with a cloth with some caustic solution.

In particular, as she reported to the police, while walking along Epirou Street, not far from the Church of Ag. Kyriaki, a car suddenly stopped next to her. A man jumped out of it, immobilized the victim and applied a wet cloth to his face, after which he disappeared. The girl was admitted to the Evangelismos hospital, and the police began to investigate the incident.

What local residents say about this

“Even if we had heard something, we would not have come out,” the frightened residents say, commenting on the incident. “We are locked in our houses and are constantly afraid. Often we have to hear screams and swearing coming from the street from young people who are organizing a showdown among themselves. Someone goes to the rescue, and someone is afraid and does not come out,” – said the TV channel MEGA one of the locals.

However, other neighbors of the young girl, who has been living with her boyfriend in Kipseli for about two years, speak of them as a “quiet couple”. Recall that about two months ago, this girl was attracted by the police for a specific crime.

As for the direction of the investigation by law enforcement agencies, the authorities, having carefully studied the list of the woman’s personal contacts, identified and arrested the perpetrator.
