“Black mold” now in Russia

Against the backdrop of the pandemic, cases of infection with “black mold” – a killer fungus were identified in Russia. Cases of mucormycosis are still isolated.

Not so long ago, the publication “Russian Athens” talked about cases Black mold in India, the disease predominantly affects those who have recovered from the coronavirus. The mortality rate from it can reach 50%. Indian experts believe that the outbreak may be associated with the use of steroids in the treatment of covid.

According to experts, mucormycosis infects the body after inhaling the spores of an aggressive fungus. Most often, it appears in damp rooms, on the surface of rotting fruits and vegetables, on the soil. The fungus affects the sinuses, lungs and even the brain, threatening the health and lives of people. It is especially dangerous for diabetics taking a large number of drugs from the category of glucocorticosteroids, cancer patients and people with AIDS.

A person infected with a fungus begins tissue necrosis in the mouth and nose. The disease is accompanied by the appearance of characteristic black scabs. Without timely medical care, mucormycosis leads to sudden death.

However, regarding cases of the disease in Russia, the newspaper writes News, experts reassure: it is very likely that cases of infection with a killer fungus will remain isolated. This is the opinion, for example, of Nikolai Klimko, Head of the Department of Clinical Mycology, Allergology and Immunology, North-Western State Medical University named after V.I. I. I. Mechnikov. In India, the situation is aggravated by the fact that a huge number of people in the country have poorly controlled diabetes. However, the scientist believes that the likelihood of a fungal infection cannot be completely ruled out for Russian diabetics.
