Crete: one of the world’s first cases of double thrombosis after vaccination with AstraZeneca

A 35-year-old man remains hospitalized at the PAGNI hospital due to a case of double thrombosis that occurred a few days after being vaccinated with AstraZeneca. In fact, if a correlation is found between the vaccine and the appearance of two blood clots, it will be one of the first cases of this disease in the world. According to the local publication creta24.gr, the head physician of the PAGNI hospital, Georgios Chalkiadakis, said that the 35-year-old man underwent two surgeries and his health condition is satisfactory. At the same time, speaking with SKAI Crete, the head of the hospital expressed optimism that “everything will be fine,” noting that the National Medicines Agency has already been informed of the incident. Referring to the rarity of this incident, he explained that an embolism had occurred in the thrombus while “the patient is being examined and tested further”. Mr. Halkiadakis, explaining that the literature mainly mentions venous thrombosis, stressed that “most likely, if this case is associated with a vaccine, it will be one of the first in the world.” For his part, in a conversation with MEGA, Alexandros Metaxakis mentioned the side effects that appeared after vaccination, as well as the first alarming signs for his health: “When I was vaccinated, I just had a fever. After 11 days, I felt a burning sensation in my leg, it became numb and after a few minutes unbearable pain began. I went to the hospital, where they found out that I had a thrombosis, and then I went to the operating room at PAGNI. ” However, after the treatment of the first thrombosis, he developed a new thrombus, as a result of which the man again ended up in the operating room. As explained by the victim, he did not have any underlying diseases or any related heredity. Although he also clarified that he does not regret being vaccinated against the coronavirus, he admitted that if he had the opportunity, he would have thought more about it before getting the AstraZeneca vaccine. “I’m 35 years old. The test results have been published, and all because of the vaccine, apparently, ”- he concluded. Finally, Panayiotis Gargalyanos, president of the Greek Society of Infections, called the patient’s case “rare”, noting that he would not give a second dose of the vaccine, although there is currently no replacement with a drug from another company. “At this stage, no instructions have been given for the combination of vaccines, that is, the first dose from one company and the second from another. We will have more data, but at the current stage, the first and second vaccinations are performed in the same way, ”he stressed. …
