What and when will open in Greece

The self test record is expected today, as tomorrow, Monday 05/05, it is planned to resume activities that require a negative covid test.

By Sunday evening, students, teachers, public and private employees of certain categories must submit test results on the self-testing.gov.gr platform. In case of a positive result, they will stay at home for a molecular test in a medical institution in order to refute or confirm the previously presented result.

Let us remind you that now students, teachers and school staff will take self-tests once a week instead of two, as it was previously established.

Who should do the self-test
In addition to students and teachers, all those working in the public sector, in local government, military and civilian personnel of the Ministry of National Defense, the Greek police, fire brigades, the coast guard and all judicial officials are required to self-test themselves.

At the same time, those who work in retail, catering, financial and insurance activities, on public transport, provides cleaning services, works in hairdressing salons, beauty salons, OPAP, bookmakers and driving schools must also pass a self-test and have in their hands negative self test result.

Employees must complete two self-tests per week, the first of which is free of charge and the second is paid by the employer.

Penalties
According to government statements, if an employee does not provide a negative test for covid, then the employer is obliged not to allow him to perform duties and is exempted from paying wages until the employee presents a negative test.

A fine is levied if the employer hires an employee without the stated self-test result. The amount is 500 euros (per employee) and increases to 1,500 euros if the employee has a coronavirus.

What applies to preschool institutions
Speaking today on the Open TV channel, Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Domna Mihailidou explained that, unlike students of other educational levels, who will undergo self-tests on a weekly basis, babies attending kindergartens and nurseries are exempt from this. The minister also stressed that children in kindergartens do not need to wear a mask.

Ms Mihailidou noted that “priority will be given to the vaccination of nursery staff, including those for which platforms have not yet been opened (by age group).”

What will open tomorrow: a gradual return to a normal rhythm of life
Nurseries and kindergartens open on Monday 17 May. Practical and laboratory classes are resumed at IEK and colleges, and Σχολείων Δεύτερης Ευκαιρίας (Second Chance Schools) schools are opening.
