Clashes between police and protesters took place today in Athens at the Israeli embassy in Greece.
The rally was attended by Palestinians, Greek and Arab organizations, and collectives protesting against the killing of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.
The protesters, according to the ALPHA TV channel, threw stones at the police, who responded with chemicals. On the part of the protesters, there are wounded. The Ambassador of the State of Palestine to Greece, Marouane Tubasi, says he is “concerned and deeply disappointed” by the latest statements by the Greek Foreign Ministry regarding the recent attacks on Palestinians. “We expected from Greece, the ‘cradle of democracy’, a statement of support from its Foreign Ministry for the Palestinians who peacefully protested against threats of extermination and ongoing attacks by armed settlers in Jerusalem during Holy Week and Easter. As well as Israel’s attempts to carry out ethnic cleansing against Palestinians in the Sheikh Jarrah region of East Jerusalem and brutal attacks on our people in Gaza, ”the Palestinian diplomat said. According to him, the people of Palestine are resisting the violent Israeli occupation just as the Greek people have done in their long history, in accordance with international and humanitarian law. “Let’s be clear that Israel is not defending itself, but defending its colonial expansionist occupation. We express our gratitude to the brotherly Greek people who always support us in defending the principles of freedom, self-determination and democracy,” concludes Mr. Tumpasi.
