This morning an armed attack was carried out on the Kazan school No. 175. The shooting took the lives of a teacher and 8 schoolchildren. According to some reports, 11 people were killed, TASS reports.
The head of Tatarstan, Rustam Minnikhanov, announced the seven dead pupils of the 8th grade and the teacher. NAC, the information center of the National Anti-Terrorism Committee, reported 16 wounded, including schoolchildren and school staff. The Ministry of Health said that 21 people were taken to hospitals, including 18 children, six schoolchildren in intensive care.
According to RBC, an armed man entered the school through the main entrance with a weapon and opened fire. A TASS source in the Ministry of Education clarifies that the shooting was carried out from automatic weapons. Eyewitnesses reported an explosion during the shooting.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs, represented by the official representative of Irina Volk, confirmed the arrest of the attacker on the school in Kazan:
“Police and other law enforcement officers immediately went to the scene. The attacker was detained by the officers of the patrol service. The operative actions of the law enforcement agencies are continuing at the school.”
According to preliminary information, this is a former student of the school Ilnaz Galyaviev, he is 19 years old, and the weapon used was registered in his name on April 28. Alexander Khinshtein, an adviser to the head of Rosgvardia and a State Duma deputy, said that the detainee received a license after he registered a 2017 Hatsan ESCORT smoothbore gun on April 14, and received a hunting ticket on February 16.
Shortly before the attack on the school, the attacker announced on the Telegram channel his intention to attack and then settle accounts with his life.
Investigative Committee of Russia announced the initiation of a criminal case against the detainee under Part 2 of Art. 105 of the Criminal Code (Murder), its investigation is entrusted to the central office of the department. According to initial information, the offender had an accomplice who barricaded himself after the arrival of the special forces and was subsequently killed. However, this information was later denied by the Information Center of the National Anti-Terrorism Committee. The arrest of 41-year-old Ramil Mukhamedshin, who is suspected of complicity, is reported.
A counter-terrorist operation is underway on the territory adjacent to the school, the Information Center of the National Anti-Terrorism Committee said. The authorities will soon hold a meeting of the republic’s anti-terrorist commission.
