Pilgrims are allowed to visit Holy Mount Athos

From today, Tuesday May 11, visitors are allowed to enter Mount Athos, subject to certain conditions.

We will remind, Athos was closed to pilgrims until March 31 of this year, and then the quarantine measures were extended further, as part of measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus, as announced in the relevant statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

This is the order of the leadership of the Athos monastic republic, according to the corresponding statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The decision is valid until further notice. It is noted that preventive checks using an express test for coronavirus at the entrance to Athos continue.

According to the relevant decision, among other things, it is allowed to provide only specially designated cells. The maximum number of people per day is limited, and visits by pilgrims to sacred monasteries (unless they have a special invitation) are prohibited.
